Four E Youth received a $5,000 Community Mission Fund grant from AgGeorgia Farm Credit to support its Youth Empowerment Agriculture Project (YEAP), a program that provides underserved youth in Wilkes County with hands-on agricultural education, career exploration, and mentorship.
Based in Washington, Georgia, Four E Youth launched YEAP to introduce young people—many from low-income families—to the wide range of opportunities available in agriculture. Through classroom learning, field trips, and practical training, participants gain exposure to careers in farming, agribusiness, and sustainable agriculture while building valuable life and workforce skills.
“Our goal is to show youth that agriculture is more than farming—it’s a pathway to leadership, entrepreneurship, and long-term opportunity,” said Shy Cullars, Project Manager of Four E Youth. “Programs like YEAP help young people see what’s possible for their future while strengthening our local agricultural community.”
Founded in 2020, Four E Youth works to transform the lives of young people affected by intergenerational poverty and gang violence by providing education, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences that create new career pathways.
The YEAP program has remained highly engaging for participants who have taken part in educational field trips and hands-on activities designed to reinforce key agricultural concepts and real-world applications. Although the program’s launch was initially delayed due to a federal government shutdown that temporarily affected participation from USDA partners, organizers adjusted the schedule to ensure the full curriculum was delivered without compromising the learning experience.
The project is now approaching completion, with final sessions focused on agribusiness and entrepreneurship, a farm-to-table cooking demonstration, and a program showcase celebrating the achievements and growth of participating youth.
By equipping young people with practical agricultural knowledge and mentorship, Four E Youth is helping cultivate the next generation of leaders while supporting the long-term sustainability of agriculture in Wilkes County.
