AgGeorgia Farm Credit is proud to announce The Funston Market by Chill C Farms as a recipient of a 2026 AgGeorgia Farmers Market Grant, awarding the market $2,000 to support the purchase of additional refrigeration equipment and expand opportunities for local farmers.
Housed in a revitalized former grocery store, The Funston Market serves residents throughout Colquitt and Mitchell counties while also attracting travelers along Highway 37. Open six days a week, year-round, the market has become a valuable outlet for farmers and food producers looking to connect directly with consumers.
"Our Farmers Market Grant Program is designed to strengthen local food systems and create opportunities for agricultural producers," said Rob Crain, CEO of AgGeorgia Farm Credit. "The Funston Market is doing an outstanding job of supporting local farmers while providing fresh, high-quality products to the community. We are pleased to support their continued growth and the positive impact they are making in south Georgia."
Currently operating with limited refrigeration capacity, The Funston Market often faces difficult decisions about which products can be displayed and stored during the spring and fall harvest seasons. Additional coolers will allow the market to accommodate more local farmers, preserve fresh produce longer, reduce spoilage, and offer customers a wider selection of seasonal products.
Beyond providing access to fresh food, The Funston Market plays an important role in supporting the local economy by creating a dependable sales outlet for farmers and keeping food dollars circulating within the community. The expanded refrigeration capacity will help ensure the market can continue meeting customer demand while creating additional opportunities for producers to market their products.
"We are passionate about supporting local farmers and providing them with an outlet for their produce and food products," said Emily Watson of The Funston Market. "This grant will help us continue growing a vibrant, community-centered marketplace where farmers can thrive and customers can access fresh, locally grown products year-round."
AgGeorgia's Farmers Market Grant Program provides funding to farmers markets and agricultural organizations across the association's 79-county territory. The program supports projects that enhance market operations, expand access to local food, and strengthen rural communities throughout Georgia.
