Sacred Roots Farm

December 19, 2025

Sacred Roots Farm, a long-term recovery home and sustainable farm for trafficked women and their children, recently completed a major project made possible through a $5,000 Community Mission Fund grant from AgGeorgia Farm Credit. The funds helped the organization establish a new farm-raised egg business that is now providing both sustainable income and valuable life-skill training for program participants.

Located in Georgia, Sacred Roots Farm provides a specifically designed residential recovery program that serves women and children who have survived sexual exploitation and trafficking. Since opening in 2018, the farm has focused on holistic recovery through programming, equine therapy, and agricultural education, addressing mental, emotional, and physical health needs for each participant.

The AgGeorgia grant, awarded in 2024, was used to install a new septic system, purchase an automatic egg washing machine, and add cold storage to meet Department of Agriculture licensing requirements for commercial egg sales. These upgrades enabled the farm to officially begin selling eggs from its flock of up to 300 pasture-raised laying hens housed in a mobile chicken tractor, which was funded by a private donor.

The egg operation is expected to generate an estimated $50,000 annually to support Sacred Roots Farm’s recovery programs. In addition to providing ongoing financial sustainability, the initiative offers participants hands-on experience in budgeting, marketing, shipping and handling, and general farm management—skills that can benefit them in future employment opportunities.

“The support from AgGeorgia Farm Credit allowed us to take a significant step toward becoming more self-sustaining while expanding the life-skill learning opportunities we offer,” said Sam Haupt, Founder and Executive Director at Sacred Roots Farm. “This project is making a real difference in the lives of the women and children we serve.”
