AgGeorgia Farm Credit awarded $53,800 in 2024 through its Community Mission Fund to twelve nonprofit organizations across Georgia. Launched in 2023, the grant program supports projects that promote the future of agriculture and enhance the quality of life in rural communities, with grants of up to $5,000 awarded per project.
C-QUL, one of the 2024 recipients, is a nonprofit organization serving Bibb, Crawford, Houston, and Twiggs Counties, and is dedicated to reducing barriers to effective mental health care by treating the whole person. C-QUL received a $5,000 grant to address food insecurity, a key issue identified in its holistic approach to mental wellness. Food insecurity—the lack of access to enough nutritious food—can have serious impacts on both physical and mental health, including malnutrition, chronic illness, depression, anxiety, and poor academic or work performance.
With the support of AgGeorgia’s Community Mission Fund, C-QUL partnered with community members in two Georgia counties to implement “Give What You Can, Take What You Need” pantries at a local recreation center and church. These pantries were designed to provide free, accessible food to lower-income families in underserved areas. The grant funded waterproof storage units, protective covers, gravel for safe public access, and additional lighting to enhance usability and safety.
“We’re proud to have supported C-QUL’s efforts to strengthen their communities through this innovative and compassionate project,” said Corey Cottle, AgGeorgia’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Their work is a great example of how small grants can make a meaningful difference in rural Georgia.”
